FM Centro per l'Arte Contemporanea presents Contemporary Art and Africa: the experience of the Lubumbashi Biennial.

The meeting is dedicated to the African contemporary art scene, with a particular attention to the importance of the Art Biennials in Africa as a network of diffusion and support of contemporary art and as a platform for dealing with issues such as politics, race, identity, globalization and postcolonialism.

The 5th Lubumbashi Biennial Rencontres Picha, will be one of the major contemporary art events in Africa this year. This edition features numerous works, photos, videos, interactive works, shows, installations, films, sculptures, paintings and innovative projects born from collaborations between artists and researchers. The works witness the ferment of the artistic scene of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, in dialogue with productions of artists invited  from other countries and coming from different geopolitical horizons. Works that challenge the social and ideological context in which they are exhibited, questioning the role of artists and their actions with a view to transforming the real.

Speakers: Toma Muteba Luntumbue (artist, art historian and artistic director of the 5th edition of the Lubumbashi Biennial), Marco Scotini (artistic director of FM Centro per l'Arte Contemporanea and curator of The White Hunter), Adama Sanneh (Director of Programs, Foundazione lettera27).
