Preview of the charity auction for Comunità Nuova - A noi ci frega lo sguardo
A preview of the photographic charity auction for the Not for profit organisation Comunità Nuova “A noi ci frega lo sguardo...”. Open Care prepared the presentation of the exhibition, curated by Manuela Cigliutti, and organised the inaugural evening event in which social photography was discussed in the presence of Don Gino Rigoldi, Chairman of Comunità Nuova, Gianni Berengo Gardin, Denis Curti and Grazia Neri, at the Frigoriferi Milanesi.
The auction of photographs donated by 62 nationally and internationally famous authors was held on 22 October 2013 by Christie’s and the proceeds of the evening was entirely devolved to the Barrhouse educational community for children in Milan, one of Comunità Nuova’s services. Barrhouse takes in children between the ages of five and thirteen from families with such great problems that, for the children’s protection, they need to be legally removed from their families by the Family courts.
Given the seriousness of the conditions of provenance, Barrhouse offers its young guests a welcoming, protective and reassuring environment that permits them to live and express their condition of childhood. Helping these children to recover a form of serenity that has been lost or, in some cases, has never existed, making them feel loved, taking forward their inclusion in a social and scholastic fabric and safeguarding them from the responsibilities and implications deriving from the disturbances in family dynamics are the goals that Barrhouse’s educators pursue every single day.
The collaboration with Comunità Nuova was further confirmed in the 2014 edition of the auction that took place on 2 December 2014 at the Milan Gallery of Modern Art, lead by Clarice Pecori Giraldi – Senior Director of Christie’s Europe.
