Initiatives
Conversazioni sul collezionismo - [Conversations on collecting]
Conversazioni sul collezionismo consist of a cycle of meetings promoted by Open Care in collaboration with other partners and aimed at investigating the evolution of collection practices and the art market.
Through the presentation of books, research and new initiatives promoted both in Italy and internationally, they encourage sharing and debate with experts, operators and art collectors with a particular focus on contemporary art.
The Art Collecting Legal Handbook
Presentation of the publication edited by Bruno Boesch and Massimo Sterpi (Thomson Reuters, London, 2013).
The book presents a detailed reconstruction of the norms regulating the commerce of art from an international perspective. The book’s editors used the best experts in art law from around thirty countries and to whom they asked the same series of questions. The replies compose a collection of information elements essential not only for lawyers but also for art collectors, curators, museum directors, insurers and art shippers. The work is enriched by an essay by Daniel McClean on artists’ contracts as well as by an introduction by the director of the ICOM, Julien Anfruns and by Sam Keller, previously a director of Art Basel and director of the Fondation Beyeler. It was discussed by the lawyer Massimo Sterpi from the Studio Jacobacci e Associati, the editors of the publication, Alessandra Donati of the Università Milano Bicocca, the President of ACACIA, Gmma Testa, the Director of the Peggy Guggenheim Collection, Philip Rylands, the artist Alberto Garutti and Pietro Vallone of the Galleria Massimo De Carlo.
The seminar was moderated by: Silvia Simoncelli, lecturer at NABA - Nuova Accademia di Belle Arti, Milano.
The seminar was organised in collaboration with the NABA-Nuova Accademia di Belle Arti Milano Contemporary Art Markets Course.

Comprare arte in un Click. Collezionismo, mercato e nuove tecnologie.
[Buying art with a Click. Art collecting, the market and new technologies]
The seminar tackled the potential offered to art collectors by new technologies in relation to access to the art market. Buying, visiting virtual galleries and markets, coming into contact with experts from your own home. Experts and operators in the market met, analysing the way in which the internet is changing art collectors’ habits, opening up the market to new buyers – and modifying the way galleries and auction houses operate.
The seminar was moderated by: Maria Adelaide Marchesoni, ArtEconomy24, Il sole 24 ore.
Collezionare fotografia. Il mercato delle immagini.
[Collecting photographs. The images market]
Presentation of the updated edition of Collezionare fotografia, by Denis Curti and Sara Dolfi Agostini (Edizioni Contrasto).
Dedicated to those wishing to take a look at the art collectors’ market or even simply to those wishing to better understand its rules and mechanisms, the volume tackles the two hearts of the same question. A panoramic view of the art market tackles the subjects of a historic, social and cultural nature, enriched by a specific focus on the Italian situation; while the practical manual, however, tackles the in-depth study of the problems of conserving and maintaining photographic works. An indispensible book, therefore, for orientating the reader in the intricate universe of contemporary art collecting.
The authors Denis Curti and Sara Dolfi Agostini participated.
Seminar organised in collaboration with Fondazione Forma per la Fotografia
