The Department includes a number of workshops and laboratories for each ambit of specialization. These work synergistically on the conservation and restoration not only of works of art and collection items of any nature, but also on the architectural finishings of the buildings hosting them and on archival materials.

Conservation activities are supported by a diagnostic laboratory that permits a more in-depth knowledge of the constituent materials, of the production techniques and the elements of deterioration, for the purposes of establishing the most effective intervention methods and the identification of the most suitable materials to be used.

A team of professional restorers, accredited for professional work by the Italian Department for Arts and Culture, is tasked with all phases of the projects for the recovery of artistic assets: from site visits to verify conservation conditions, to intervention planning through to the completion of the restoration work.  The entire journey concludes with the preparation of a report, complete with images, on the activities undertaken.

The interventions on individual works and collections, both privately and institutionally owned, can be take place both on construction sites, in laboratories and workshops or in situ, and, in the case of classified works, with the constant collaboration of the relative supervisory authority.

Thanks to our collaboration with the Factum Foundation, the workshops and laboratories benefit from the digitalization of the art work surfaces using the highly innovative and non-invasive technology of the 3D Lucida scanner.

The restorers in the various workshops and laboratories are accredited by the Italian Ministry for Arts and Culture for the performance of professional work as restorers of cultural assets and they consistently participate in the continuing education courses held by accredited Organizations both in Italy and abroad.

The results of scientific research and the outcome of particularly challenging and innovative restorations, are regularly published in scientific journals or are presented at conferences of the sector.

Furthermore, the Department Director collaborates with a number of organizations and Italian and foreign universities in the formation of students (stages) and participates as one of the professors in training programs.
